Himeji Castle tickets and admission prices
Himeji Castle tickets follow the revised tariff effective since 1 March 2026. As of 3 November 2026, general adult entry costs 2,500 JPY and adults resident in Himeji pay 1,000 JPY. This is a residence distinction: an overseas visitor without Himeji residence uses the general adult category, rather than a separate nationality surcharge. Take the relevant proof when using an age exemption or resident rate.
Entry is free for people under eighteen, including the transitional period from their eighteenth birthday until the first following 31 March. This makes the precise rule more useful than a simple child-versus-adult label. A castle and Koko-en combination costs 2,600 JPY. The garden alone costs 400 JPY for adults. Select the combination around your intended visit to both places, allowing for the different last-entry times.

Guided visits with castle admission
The bookable products here combine guiding with castle admission. They are guided visits, rather than admission-only products. The two-and-a-half-hour accredited-guide visit starts at Honmachi 68 and includes castle admission and public liability coverage. Transport to the castle and lunch are extra. This is a convenient format if you want to reach the castle independently and meet a guide there.
An English-speaking walking guide with castle entry meets at JR Himeji Station's north exit. Its stated duration is 150 to 210 minutes. Another guided visit lasts 180 minutes and includes admission; its meeting instructions identify a circular park bench, with details sent to participants. Keep that meeting description with your booking rather than assuming every castle guide waits at the same entrance. For a broader comparison of arrival formats, see castle tours.
Opening hours and the last entry
Normal castle hours are 09:00 to 17:00, with final admission at 16:00. Windows and building sections start closing progressively from 16:30. The annual closed dates are 29 and 30 December. A late arrival therefore leaves less usable visiting time than the closing hour alone might suggest. The castle's approximate visiting time is 1.5 to 2 hours, with additional waiting possible when busy.
Koko-en normally opens from 09:00 to 17:00 and takes its last visitors at 16:30; it also closes on 29 and 30 December. When using the combination ticket, place both entries in a realistic sequence. Read the garden guide if the garden is a main part of your day rather than a short extra stop after the keep.
Digital time slots, capacity and cancellation
Digital ticket operation began on 1 March 2026. Time-bound tickets are offered from ninety days before the visit. The portal requires registration and a credit card supporting 3D Secure. The ticket is displayed digitally and its code scanned by staff; this portal does not issue a paper ticket. xID and My Number checks relate to the ticket types marked for them, so follow the requirements for the category you select.
The main keep's capacity is limited to 1,000 people per hour. A digital ticket does not give priority for viewing inside, and neither a time slot nor included admission should be treated as a promise of no waiting. Keep space in your itinerary between the castle visit and a fixed onward departure.
The ticket portal does not directly change the visit date or participant count. Its process is cancellation followed by a new purchase, under the cancellation conditions of the particular product. Read those terms before committing to a replacement. Use the relevant booking's conditions for a guided tour as well, rather than transferring an assumption from one type of purchase to another.
Other concessions and a practical entry plan
For groups of thirty or more, the published adult castle rates are 2,000 JPY general and 800 JPY for residents. A personal castle annual pass costs 5,000 JPY and lasts one year from payment for the same person. Visitors with the specified disability documentation and one companion receive free entry; with wheelchair use, the companion allowance extends to three. The physical limits of the route still matter alongside the admission concession.
Wheelchairs cannot enter the castle buildings. The approach as far as Bizenmaru requires two to three experienced helpers. Outdoor shoes must be removed inside, so bring a shoe bag, and plan food or other outside stops around the rule that re-entry is not permitted. The interior visit page describes stairs and footwear in more detail. For your arrival, the station-to-castle route keeps the final walking stage separate from your train journey.
Questions about your visit
Do foreign visitors have a separate surcharge?
The published tariff separates Himeji residents from other visitors. The general adult price is 2,500 JPY under the tariff effective since 1 March 2026.
When does free youth entry end?
It covers under-eighteens and the period from the eighteenth birthday to the first following 31 March. Bring age documentation.
Are the products here admission-only tickets?
They combine a guide with castle admission. Public entry and digital admission are separate ways to arrange an independent visit.
Can I alter a digital ticket date directly?
The portal uses cancellation and a new purchase for changes to date or participant count. Product-specific cancellation conditions apply.
